Liberon Tung Oil

Pure Tung Oil is highly resistant to water, alcohol and food acids.

The oil (also known as Chinese Wood Oil) is a natural oil for wood care and provides a hard wearing, long lasting matt finish, which allows the wood to age gracefully and develop a natural patina.

Application

Before application, ensure surface is clean, dry and dust free. For ease of application the first one or two coats need to be diluted with white spirits up to 50%. Phillips Joinery Ltd apply the first two coats.

A further two coats are required, but these should not be diluted. These coats should be applied with a brush or lint-free cotton cloth. Allow the oil to penetrate for 20 to 30 minutes then wipe off the excess oil using a lint free cloth. Allow 24 hours to dry between coats.

After the final coat has been applied and the excess has been removed, leave for up to 24 hours and wipe over again to aid the drying and remove any oil that may have surfaced. Leave for a few days before use to allow the Tung Oil to dry fully.

More coats may be required on porous or external surfaces.

Maintenance

Pure tung oil must be maintained on a regular basis, at least once or twice a year or more if necessary.

Hints & Tips

Tung Oil applied as above will give a matt finish. For indoor finishes a coat of Black Bison Wax can be applied on top to give a satin sheen. Never leave your Pure Tung Oil tin opened, this would cause the oil to deteriorate. Keep at temperatures above 5oC. If surface becomes damaged, work in a thin new coat.

Precautions

Oily cloths can self-combust. Do not leave impregnated cloths in bundles. Before discarding, lay them flat to dry outside to avoid a fire hazard.
